As much as I love Elton John and Bernie Taupin's long list of collaborations and I particularly enjoyed this Grammy salute music special my all-time favorite music special remains The Eagles: Farewell Tour from Melbourne Australia. In closing Elton John thanked all the artists who performed his songs in their own unique way and he humbly thanked his loyal friend and songwriter Bernie Taupin, before he sat down at his piano to rock out Bennie and the Jets and Philadelphia Freedom. This music special also pays tribute to Elton John's well known philanthropy and his kindness for helping many young artists being discovered. A legendary lineup including Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Chris Stapleton, Ed Sheeran and Willie Nelson reimagine some of Elton John’s biggest hits on the double-album Revamp and Restoration. In 2013 Elton was honored as the first recipient of the prestigious BRITs Icon Award. From the fantastic rendition of "The Bitch is Back" by the young and so talented Miley Cyrus, to other artists such as Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheerin, Little Big Town, Shawn Mendes, SZA and John Legend, to name but a few this tribute to BOTH Bernie Taupin's tapestry of songwriting combined with the tens of millions of records sold with Elton John the original rock star (after Liberace of course) theirs is a legacy that will last long after we are all gone from this planet we call earth. In 2004 Elton received the Kennedy Center Honor for his lifetime contributions to American culture and excellence through the performing arts. In 1998 the Queen of England knighted him Sir Elton John, CBE. In 1992, Elton established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which today is one of the leading nonprofit HIV/AIDS organizations.
